The Day After Christmas

Ah, the calm and slowing down of life after Christmas. Each year we vow to do things differently, but each year we seem to get caught up in the Christmas rush anyway. I'm not sure what we really could change, but I sure wish we could figure out a way to make the last week before Christmas a bit less frantic.

Brian does not have to go back to work until 1/5/09. I am very much looking forward to this family time.

Today was wonderful, quiet, calm, relaxing and fun; the children each enjoying their gifts and having time to hang out.

Dan enjoyed some sticker fun. This wasn't a Christmas gift, but the girls were working at the table and he wanted something to do too, so I gave him a sheet of Christmas stickers and he was content.

Hannah got this great art and play set from one of the cousins. There are paints, markers, stickers, paperdolls and stamps and they all have to do with Disney Princesses.

Rachel worked on making some beaded necklaces.

Gabe put together his Lego set.

Bess purused the internet in hopes of finding good deals and to spend the gift certificates she received.

We all spent time outdoors today, hauling firewood, filling birdfeeders, sledding and playing on the very large ice patch in the neighbors field.

I opened my new sewing machine and worked through the set up instructions. I think I am going to love working with this machine. :-)

And of course, there was plenty of play on the Wii for everyone. I love the bowling.

We're Loving the 12 days of peace too! Jamie doesn't go back to work until 5th either!

One way to make things easier next year is to buy gifts throughout the year. I made a start in the sales yesterday!

Ah! My sentiments exactly! I'm so enjoying the relaxation after many frantic days filled with activity and jobs to be done.
Your children look so content with their various presents. Our grandsons got Wii too. It looks like a lot of fun. I love all your family photos, but the one of Bessie and Gabe opening the Wii is so much fun :)
Thanks for the Christmas wishes. Wishing you and yours a joyful, healthy New Year filled with blessings.

I think we're getting this worked out. We really were not stressed this year....now taking into account ministry things there is always some busy-ness - but we were able to cut out everything eles that wasn't family related and enjoy life. It was good.

Of course, with a large family, even when you DO cut things way back there is an activity level that can't be reduced....I mean we get one gift per child - and that's about as bare bones as we want to go - but it does require activity...KWIM? I'm coming to relax in it and realize that the week after will be slower....and that in future years I'll miss this time. LOL

I don't know what we would change either. I love the hustle and bustle, if the truth be known...

I LOVE your new background and the picture in your header!
