In today’s society, any family where there is a dad, a mom and children is nothing short of a miracle. And I realize that the miracle of birth is something truly amazing and such a gift from God.
What I have been thinking about is our family and what an incredible miracle forming it is been. The logistics of international adoption is mind boggling.
Here are some of the stats on our family.
- Eight parents (including Brian and me) from three different countries
- Three national governments and all their respective agencies and the many differences on how they handle things
- Many local and state government agencies
- Two town clerks
- Sheriffs department and State police
- One adoption agency
- Two social workers
- One orphanage and all the staff involved
- Two foster families
- Doctors, nurses and other medical staff in all three countries
- Two lawyers and their legal staff
- Three judges
- One psychologist
- Two pastors
- Nine friends
This is by no means an exhaustive list. I know there are 10s, more likely 100s of people that had a hand in bringing our children home to us. One shouldn’t wonder at how long it takes to adopt a child but that an adoption takes place at all, especially an international adoption. It staggers my mind to think how many people might have been involved, how many pairs of hands the paperwork passed through.
As we struggle through our days of teaching, nurturing, disciplining and loving, it is a good thing to sit back and wonder at the miracle of our family. The precious blessing it is from our Heavenly Father who saw fit to work it all out that we should be together. It is a good thing to ponder these things.

Thanks for sharing a post like this! We have adoption in our family (my husband and his sister were adopted), and we hope to adopt next year if God wills it. It warms my heart to hear about family stories!

But most of all it took your courage and determination to be parents and faith that God would make you a family. And what a wonderful family you have become!
It is truly no less miraculous than God knitting a being together in the womb! One lost paper, one late letter of recomendation, one under-the-weather judge, or one illness running through an orphanage and the whole system falls apart. Isn't it comforting to know that God puts families togehter, in all sorts of ways!
