Mother's Day

We had a very enjoyable day on Mother's Day. The weather was sunny and warm.

After church and lunch, Brian wanted to take me out to one of our favorite plant nurseries. Most of the garden places in the area do not have all of their summer stock out yet as the weather can be so unpredictable, but this place usually has a good selection of shrubs and hardier perennials out and they have a greenhouse full of houseplants.

We were not disappointed. The gardens looked great already and they had a wonderful selection of shrubs. The workers were taking stock out of the many greenhouses as we meandered through the racks of perennials.

I could have easily spent a lot of money here. Thankfully, our van, while very large, is also full of children, so we only came home with three new plants. Brian is planning a trip with the truck to pick out some larger shrubs.

Gabe liked this view and wanted me to take a picture. Note that the green tint of spring growth is only about 3/4 up the hillside. It will still be a week or two before the top sees any new leaves.

In the greenhouse, the kids had a great time talking with the birds. The Littles especially were fascinated by the fact that a bird can talk. This guy's favorite words were "hello" and "I want a cracker".

How wonderful would it be to have a fish pond in your home. I've often dreamed of a greenhouse with a small pond. The sound of the water, the flash of colorful fish and a few water plants would be a haven during our long winter months.


While we were in the greenhouse, we saw this cat carrying something around. It took us a minute or two to realize it was a very little mouse. There are several cats in and around the nursery as there is a very large barn and a few outbuildings in addition to the greenhouses. The cats must do a good job of keeping down the mouse population.


We stopped and got some takeout and headed over to Mom and Dad's. We had a wonderful meal and visit with them. The kids played outside and we sat on the porch enjoying the evening air and chatted.

Home with sleepy children, new plants to put in the garden and memories of another pleasant day.
